1. To study the effect of introducing the “Suspect Spot Consulting-hours” (Verdachte Plekjes Poli)

Achtergrond

One out of 6 Dutch citizens will develop skincancer during lifetime and the incidence still rises. To control the increasing number of patients, the Department of Dermatology introduced the “Suspect Spot Consulting-hours” at the Westeinde and Antoniushove Hospitals. Patients will be seen by a dermatologist within one week and treated at the same day if necessary. A selection of patients will be send to the surgeon, plastic surgeon, radiotherapist or E.N.T specialist.

Doel

To study whether the introduction of these specific consulting-hours meets the expectations from the physicians

  • are 90-95% of the patients seen within 1 week of consultation
  • meets the population the criteria of the dermatologist at the Suspect Spot Consulting-hours
  • how satisfied are patients that are seen at the (seen within 1 week, diagnosis and or treatment at the same visit, less specialists involved)
  • improves the quality of the treatment (shortening of time till definitive treatment, more radical excisions, follow up as advised by the national guideline).

2. The effects of two different types of EndoVascular Laser Therapy

Achtergrond

In Western countries an estimated of 23% adults have varicose veins and 6% have more advanced chronic venous disease (CVD) including ulcers. Varicositas are frequently the cause of discomfort, pain, disability and detoriation of quality of life. Severe CVD may also lead to loss of limb or loss of life. At the Antoniushove Hospital varicositas is treated with EVLT. Since 1 June 2013 a different type of EVLT  has been used, which has a standard fluency of 50J/cm2. It promised less and shorter discomfort for patients after treatment

compared to the previous EVLT with a fluency that could be installed by the operator.

Doel

To analyse the effects of two types of EVLTs with the following research questions:

discomfort after treatment (pain, use of anaesthetic drugs mentioned in the patient file between treatment and follow up visit after 6 weeks)

was EVLT effective for varicositas measured with venous duplex ultrasonography (were collateral branches treated, was the primary complaint solved) compared with pre-treatment ultrasonography

additional treatments after EVLT mentioned in the patient file with a follow up of 6 weeks or longer.
